Prior to going to Iceland neither of us had been to a black sand beach before. We were really excited to experience the volcanic beaches.
We also got to see the basalt columns that are on the beach.
The columns were really tall!
I stood up on the columns, I wanted to climb higher but decided it probably wasn’t a good idea!
Mini basalt cave!
We got there just in time to see the sunset! I was excited that the sand is actually a dark black color. I feel like so many places we have been to before when they say the sand is going to be particular color it is just lightly that color.
They told us not to go anywhere close to the water because apparently this section of the beach is known for having crazy currents, rip tides, and huge waves. I am always convinced that the tide is going to come in crazy fast and we will get trapped lol. So I didn’t want to linger too long in the area by the cave!
At least you can tell from his eyes that he was smiling!
We were so excited for this excursion because it would be an overnight trip so we would have a chance to stay in a better hotel. Our main hotel was horrible so we thought maybe this one would be better. It wasn’t… instead this time we had separate beds lol. Such a romantic honeymoon! Our main hotel we had one full size bed, but we had two sets of separate twin size covers lol.
There was also only one restaurant in town (the one that our hotel was at) and it was seriously $30 for a bowl of soup. So instead this was our Christmas dinner! Lol we were STARVING by the next day!
It was a little bit of a rough Christmas eve (separate beds, no dinner, middle of nowhere) but we loved the black sand beach and it was worth it to be able to see the places we went to the next day!
