“N” is for National Forest Hike

My pick for our “N” date was a hike in one of the national forests near us. To be completely honest the hike we ended up doing was on the edge of the Arapahoe National Forest, but really was more so in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. But close enough for me!

Since it was wildflower season we researched a hike that we thought would have some good wildflowers. Ideally we would have gone out to Crested Butte, the wildflower capital of Colorado, but we didn’t have enough time this year. Maybe next year!

Unfortunately it was stormy and cloudy the majority of the our hike so the colors of these flowers didn’t quite come out as well.

We saw lots of Columbines, the state flower of Colorado.

Finally the sun kind of came out, but it didn’t last long!

It’s funny because at this point it looked like it might end up actually being a nice day. Instead it started raining right after we left the lake and rained on us the entire way back to our car. At least we got some good lake pictures first!

We really enjoyed hiking to Diamond Lake. There was a little bit of everything on this hike: wildflowers, mountain views, waterfalls, and the lake!
